Why the Moloko Pyrenees Escape is so Unique

Why the Moloko Pyrenees Escape is so Unique

There’s a reason cyclists keep coming back to the Pyrenees. The roads. The climbs. The landscape. The fact that you can spend an entire day riding through some of the most spectacular mountains in Europe and barely see another car.

But for us, the magic of the Pyrenees goes beyond the riding. It’s the small villages you pass through, the quiet roads that lead somewhere unexpected, the bakery stops that become part of the route, and the long dinners after a big day in the mountains.

It’s the feeling of discovering somewhere properly, rather than simply visiting the well-known spots. That’s exactly what we wanted to create with the Moloko Pyrenees Escape.

A farmhouse worth riding home to

Forget chain hotels and generic cycling bases. For the week, we stay in a traditional French farmhouse tucked away in the Pyrenees countryside. The kind of place you don’t stumble across by accident - hidden down quiet roads, surrounded by rolling hills, with barely another house in sight.

It becomes our base for the week. Coffee before the ride, a proper breakfast before rolling out, and a place to return to after a full day in the mountains - bikes leaning against old stone walls before sitting down together for dinner. It’s where routes are discussed over breakfast, and stories from the ride are shared around the dinner table full of delicious food while the sun sets behind you over the hills.

After taking on the Tourmalet or exploring the quieter roads of the region, there’s nowhere better to return to. We truly believe the best cycling trips aren’t just measured by the kilometres ridden or metres climbed - they're measured by the places you stay, the people you meet and all the amazing moments in between.

Riding the roads that make the Pyrenees special

Let's be honest - the riding is why we're here. The Pyrenees have everything you’d want from a cycling destination: legendary climbs, quiet roads, endless switchbacks and mountain views that make every metre of climbing worthwhile. It’s a place where you can move from open valleys to high mountain passes in a single ride, with barely another rider or car in sight.

Of course, we’ll take on the classics, including the mighty Col du Tourmalet. A climb steeped in cycling history and one that every rider should experience at least once. But the roads we’re equally as excited to share are all the ones in between. The climbs without the fanfare. The ribbons of tarmac that weave through tiny villages, past farmland and into parts of the Pyrenees that most visitors never see. We'll also take on a route that has a crazy backstory - alien conspiracy theories and more!

These are the roads that make you stop for a view, take the longer descent, or turn a quick coffee stop into something much longer than planned. We’ll ride the famous climbs, but we’ll also ride the roads that make the Pyrenees feel like the Pyrenees.

The road less travelled

The Pyrenees have managed to hold onto something that many of Europe’s great cycling destinations have lost: a sense of discovery. Away from the headline climbs, you’ll find quiet mountain passes, sleepy villages and roads that still feel wonderfully untouched. It’s not unusual to ride for hours with little more than mountains, farmland and the occasional local waving as you pass through.

It doesn’t feel like a place built for cyclists - it just happens to be one of the best places in the world to ride a bike!

We’ve spent time exploring the region to piece together routes that capture that feeling. The hidden corners, the local stops and the roads that you’d be unlikely to find without knowing where to look. Less traffic. More adventure. More of what makes riding somewhere new so rewarding!

Eating like a local

Every great ride deserves a great meal. The week starts with fresh bread and pastries from the village bakery, coffee stops in small towns and pastries that taste even better after a morning in the mountains. These little moments are a quintessential part of riding in France.

Back at the farmhouse, dinner is something we seriously look forward to. Our hosts prepare authentic, farm-to-table meals using seasonal ingredients from the surrounding area - simple, generous cooking that showcases the flavours of the Pyrenees.

Expect local specialities, sharing plates and proper home cooking. Food with flavour that's hearty and made to be enjoyed after a big day on the bike. It’s where we all come together, swapping stories from the ride and planning the next day over delicious food and drink.

Discover somewhere new

The Pyrenees aren’t about chasing the biggest names or ticking climbs off a list. They’re about finding a road you’ve never ridden before, stopping at a café because the view is too good to ignore, and maybe even taking the long way because there’s nowhere else you need to be!

That’s what makes the Moloko Pyrenees Escape special. A week of riding some of France’s best roads, staying somewhere with real character, and experiencing the mountains in a way that feels so true to the place.
